Loblaw starts notifying two million customers of March data breach
Loblaw, which calls itself Canada’s largest retailer, is telling about two million customers that a March data breach exposed their information. The Canadian Press reported on October 23 that Loblaw is starting to notify them.
Loblaw said it became aware of unauthorized activity in its systems on or around March 5. On March 10, it said a criminal third party had accessed basic customer information such as names, phone numbers and email addresses. It did not say how many customers were affected. On October 2, it said it would notify those affected in the coming weeks.
The fuller list now includes home addresses, dates of birth, loyalty card numbers, some purchase order details and partial payment card information. Loblaw said the extent differs by customer.
It offers free credit monitoring and identity restoration through TransUnion. It asks customers to be wary of unexpected emails, calls or texts.
